Sightseeing in Beijing

As Beijing is lush in history, there are many sightseeing places you should visit.  These are to name just a few places out of the magnitude to visit:

The Great Wall of China

One of the Great Wonders of the World, the Great Wall of China stretches across approximately 8,851.8 km (5,500 mi).  The wall was used as protection from outsiders back during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States Periods.  The great wall itself used to be separate walls, but during the Qin Dynasty, the walls were united.

The Forbidden City

The Forbidden City was the the imperial palace for twenty-four emperors during the Ming and Qing dynasties.  Back during the dynasties, it was forbidden to enter the palace without the emperor's permission.

 Tiananmen Square

Tiananmen Square holds the Tiananmen Tower, Monument of the People's Heroes, Great Hall of People, Mao Zedong Memorial Hall, and a place where you can see the national flag raising ceremony.

Summer Palace

The Summer Palace is the largest and well-preserved royal park in China.  It is famous for its natural views and cultural interests.  It has long been recognized as "The Museum of Royal Gardens".

Temple of Heaven

The Temple of Heaven is a complex of religious buildings and was visited by the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties for annual ceremonies of prayer to Heaven for good harvest as the emperors were thought to be the Son of Heaven.

Ming Dynasty Tombs

The Ming Tombs are mausoleums of thirteen emperors of the Ming Dynasty and also of twenty-three empresses and one highest-ranking imperial concubine.

Yonghe Lamasery

This place is considered the largest and most perfectly preserved lamasery in present day China.  The Qing Dynasty changed its past dwelling to that of a lamasery and making become the national center of Lama administration.
